Aromatic Medicine Diploma

The Licentiate Diploma of Clinical Aromatherapy (also known as Aromatology) comprises two modules that have been designed to enhance considerably the aromatherapists' knowledge and practical skills and advance into the Aromatic Medicine Diploma. Taught by specialised tutors, this course is to be highly recommended to serious therapists wishing to extend their professional development.

Prerequisite – Chemistry for Aromatherapists, IFA or IFPA Aromatherapy Diploma and two years full-time experience as a therapist working hands-on.

LDCA Module 1 Cost £330

A 3-day course taken after the Chemistry for Aromatherapists CPD. Aromatic treatment is discuss historically to determine its place in practice today. The importance of integrity and integration of treatment regimes is emphasised. The course includes much materia medica, where essential oils are pin–pointed by their chemical components to treat various specific conditions. Safety in practice is explored with different methods of application of essential oils, including intensive inhalation and raindrop treatments.

LDCA Module 2 Cost £330

This 3-day module teaches the intensive use of essential oils and carrier oils both on the skin and also their controlled and informed internal use by mouth (usually gargling), vagina, and rectum. This module is designed to promote further the beneficial use of essential oils, as well as considering possible hazards (internal administration is carefully taught and is restricted in its use). Application techniques are taught, including compresses, specialised local massage movements, specific reflex points, pessary and suppository manufacture and application.

Students are also expected to take the Pain Management course and also the Hydrolats course between the two modules.

Aromatic Medicine Diploma Examination Cost £100

The Licentiate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy is awarded after successful completion of:

10 case studies (100 hours)

Competed course work (200 hours)

3–hour theory exam

The Fellowship Diploma

Prerequisites for the course: Licentiate Diploma in Aromatherapy and commitment to further study and research.

FDCA Cost £475

This intensive 4-day module discusses models of research, how to plan and carry out accurately pilot studies and full research programmes, how to interpret results and how to write up the research. There will be lectures on literature searching and using different methods of information. More materia medica will be taught, giving the student an even deeper insight into the world of essential oils and their pharmacological effects. Support is given by personal tutor throughout the dissertation process.

The examination is successful on completion of a 15,000 word dissertation. A Fellowship is then granted by the Academy to belong to the Academy with additional benefits. Successful students will be entitled to wear academic dress appropriate to this level and append the letters FDCA to their name.
